Portraits

I love the human face and all the subtle details that make us unique.  People that have purchased my portraits in the past say, “I capture the essence of the person”.

I have a process that I create when developing a portrait.  First, I draw the person freehand as this helps me really know his or her face.  I’ll transfer my drawing to the canvas and then do a detailed under painting.  I then take excellent quality oil paint and paint many layers to the finished product.

To purchase a commission.

I can work from photograph or take the image myself.  When we decide to go ahead with the commission a 50% deposit is paid. If you’re sending a picture, I’ll help you choose what image is best for a painting.  Sometimes photos look great, but don’t translate well into a painting.  I’ll also ask for a number of photographs to see the person at different angles.  It helps me understand the persons facial structure better.  Once the portrait is completed, I’ll send you an image for your approval.  I can make subtle changes to the painting too.  When it’s done that balance is paid and the portrait is sent when the paint is dry.  Since I use oil paint, I like to give at least 2 weeks for drying before shipping.
